SERVICE AGREEMENT

Booking, Pricing & Policies

Birthday Parties Include:

  • A small gift for the birthday child

Community / Corporate Events Include:

  • “Free Face Painting” banner (optional display)

  • 9ft “Face painting” rainbow feather flag for visibility

  • Mirror station to ensure efficient line flow

Fees

  • Face Painting: $150 per hour, per artist, 2-hour minimum
    (Approx. 10–25 faces per hour depending on complexity)

  • Balloon Twisting: $150 per hour, per artist, 2-hour minimum
    (Approx. 10–20 balloons per hour depending on complexity)

  • Birthday Parties: $250 for 2 hours, per artist, Maximum 20 faces for birthday parties per 2 hour booking. If 10 kids of less, can include one hour of face painting and one hour of balloon twisting.

    Client is responsible for booking enough time to accommodate the expected number of guests. We cannot guarantee service of all guests if insufficient time is booked.

    If additional time is requested and an artist is available to stay, overtime is billed in ½ hour increments at $150/hour per artist.

    Client agrees to pay for the full contracted time, even if start time is delayed by guest arrival, setup access, or event flow.

Deposit & Payments

  • A 50% deposit is required to confirm and reserve your event date.

  • Private Events: Remaining balance is due 24 hours before the event.

  • Corporate / Community / Organization Events: Remaining balance is due within 30 days after the event.

  • Accepted payment methods: e-transfer, cash, cheque, invoice link, or on-site tap.

  • Late invoices accrue $25 per day beginning on day 3 after the event date.

  • Returned cheque fee: $30

Cancellations & Rescheduling

  • Events cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled start time are charged 100% of the contracted total.

  • Cancellations made within 7 days of the event are charged 50% of the contracted total.

  • Deposits are non-refundable, but may be transferred to a new date if rescheduled with 7+ days notice.

  • If MJC Artistry must cancel due to emergency or illness, a replacement artist will be provided or a full refund issued.

Insurance & Vetting

MJC Artistry carries $5M in commercial liability insurance, and all artists complete a background check (vulnerable sector check) prior to working with MJC Artistry.

  •  A Certificate of Insurance, including additional-insured endorsements, is available upon request for corporate, municipal, and organizational bookings at no extra cost.


Travel & Parking

  • Travel fees apply to events located outside of the Tri-Cities

  • Client agrees to provide parking within close proximity to the event.
    Any parking expenses will be added to the final invoice.

  • Delays caused by parking or loading challenges do not extend the contracted service time.

Setup, Safety & Liability

Indoor Setup:

  • Minimum space: 6’ x 6’, adequate lighting required.

Outdoor Setup:

  • Client must provide a fully covered and shaded area.

  • Required space: 10’L x 10’W x 11’H of level ground.

  • Artist requires access to a restroom and a place to dispose of rinse water.

  • If needed, Artist can provide a 10’ x 10’ tent for $80-150 additional fee.

Tables & Chairs:

  • For events 3 hours or less, client provides (1) 6ft table + (2) chairs per artist.

  • For events 4 hours or more, artists will provide tables and chairs.

Weather Policy (Outdoor Events)

Client agrees to provide a safe, weather-protected work area.
If conditions are unsafe due to rain, extreme heat, cold, wind, or storm risk, an indoor backup space is required.

Once the artist has arrived onsite, the full contracted rate is due, regardless of weather changes.

Breaks

Artists receive:

  • 5–10 minute paid break after 2 hours

  • 30 minute paid break for bookings 3+ hours

Client remains responsible for crowd management during breaks.

Health & Safety

For sanitation and safety:

  • Artists will not paint anyone who appears to be sick, has an infectious skin condition, open wounds, or cold sores.

  • Artists will not paint children under 3 years old if unwilling or distressed.

  • Only cosmetic-grade, FDA-compliant professional products are used.

  • Client acknowledges that minor staining from darker pigments may occur.

Artwork & Conduct

  • Artists will not paint offensive, graphic, hate-related, or inappropriate imagery.

  • Artists reserve the right to stop service due to dangerous, hostile, or unsafe conditions with no refund provided.

Liability & Responsibility

Client agrees to hold harmless MJC Artistry, Mackenzie Travis, and any subcontracted artists from liability for:

  • Injury, accident, allergic reaction, property damage, or loss
    except in cases of proven intentional misconduct by MJC Artistry.

Client agrees to supervise all children and maintain a safe environment at all times. Artists do not supervise children.

Other Artists & Volunteer Painters

If additional face painters, volunteers, or entertainers are present at the event, the Client acknowledges that they are not affiliated with MJC Artistry unless explicitly arranged and confirmed in writing by MJC Artistry. The Client agrees that MJC Artistry does not supervise, direct, train, or assume responsibility for any other artists or volunteers.

MJC Artistry uses professional cosmetic-grade, FDA-compliant products and follows strict sanitation protocols including brush sanitization, single-use sponges where applicable, and proper hygiene procedures. Many non-professional or volunteer painters may use craft paint, acrylic paint, watercolour, or markers, which are not intended for use on skin and may cause allergic reactions, irritation, or injury.

To prevent product contamination, safety risk, and liability confusion:

  • Other painters or volunteers may not use MJC Artistry’s kits, paints, supplies, water, tools, table setup, signage, or work area.

  • Client agrees to keep MJC Artistry’s working area physically separate from any other face painting or art stations.

  • MJC Artistry is not liable for any injury, reaction, sanitation issue, artistic outcome, or guest dissatisfaction resulting from the work or conduct of any non-MJC Artistry painters or volunteers.

Client accepts full responsibility for informing volunteers or additional artists of these conditions and acknowledges that MJC Artistry’s liability and insurance coverage extend only to work performed by MJC Artistry and its subcontracted artists.

Media, Promotion & Recognition

Event Photography

MJC Artistry may take photographs of face painting and balloon designs created at the event for portfolio, marketing, and promotional use, including but not limited to social media, website galleries, and printed materials.

  • MJC Artistry will only photograph or share images of individuals with verbal consent from the participant or their parent/guardian. If the Client prefers that no photos be taken at the event, the Client must notify MJC Artistry in writing prior to the event date.

  • If no written notice is provided, the Client grants MJC Artistry permission to respectfully and appropriately photograph artwork completed during the event.

Image & Advertising Standards

When advertising, promoting, or representing MJC Artistry’s services — on social media, a website, event listings, or printed materials:

  • Client agrees to use only real photographs, either taken at the event or provided directly by MJC Artistry. 

  • AI-generated or stock imagery may not be used to depict or represent MJC Artistry’s work. Real event images are available on request.

Backlinks & Tagging

Where the platform allows, the Client agrees to include a link to MJC Artistry’s website (mjcartistry.ca) or a tag/mention of MJC Artistry’s social media accounts when advertising or promoting an event that features MJC Artistry’s services.

Client Recognition


For corporate, community, and organizational bookings, the Client agrees that MJC Artistry may list the Client’s name, organization, or logo as a client on the MJC Artistry website (including the client/partner logo carousel) and in related promotional materials. A Client who prefers not to be listed may opt out at any time, before or after the event, by notifying MJC Artistry in writing.

Artwork & Design Usage

Face painting and balloon designs created by MJC Artistry remain the artistic property of MJC Artistry. 

  • The Client may share photos or videos of this artwork personally or to promote the event at which it was created. 

  • Photos, videos, or descriptions of MJC Artistry's work may not be used to advertise, promote, or represent a different or future event — including using past work as a preview or example of the entertainment planned — unless MJC Artistry is actually booked as the artist for that event

  • This artwork also may not be resold, licensed, or presented as the Client's own original work without MJC Artistry's written permission.
